8-input expandable gate in the 4000B family
The Texas Instruments CD4048BE is a multifunction expandable gate from the 4000B series, packaged in a 16-pin DIP (0.300" width, 7.62 mm pitch) for through-hole assembly. It accepts eight inputs and delivers a single-ended output, making it a flexible building block for combinatorial logic in designs where a standard AND/NAND/OR/NOR gate does not cover the truth table. Output drive is rated 6.8 mA for both high and low states, sufficient for driving one or two standard CMOS loads without a buffer.
Through-hole DIP for prototyping and low-volume production
The 16-DIP package (0.300" body width) with 0.100" pin spacing is breadboard-friendly and hand-solderable, suited for prototyping, repair, and low-to-medium volume runs where a surface-mount reflow step is not justified. The supplier device package is 16-PDIP. No Schmitt trigger on the inputs — the logic threshold follows the standard CMOS VIL/VIH ratio of roughly 30%/70% of VDD. For noisy environments, an external Schmitt buffer or RC filtering ahead of the inputs is recommended.
