Quad bilateral switch for analog and digital signal routing
The Texas Instruments CD4016BM is a quad bilateral FET switch from the 4000B CMOS logic family, configured as four independent single-pole single-throw (SPST) switches. Each switch handles both analog and digital signals up to the supply rails, with a typical on-resistance of a few hundred ohms. The 3V to 18V supply range makes it compatible with TTL, CMOS, and battery-powered logic levels. Rated for -55°C to 125°C, it suits military, avionics, and industrial environments where temperature extremes are the norm.
Supply voltage and signal handling
The CD4016BM operates from a single supply of 3V to 18V, or a dual supply when the application requires bipolar signal swing. The bilateral nature means each switch conducts equally well in both directions.
14-SOIC package and board integration
Housed in a 14-SOIC (0.154", 3.90mm width) surface-mount package, the CD4016BM fits standard SOIC-14 land patterns. The body width is narrow enough for dense PCB layouts but still hand-solderable with a fine tip. Four independent switches share common VDD and VSS pins — no special supply sequencing needed.
Lifecycle and compliance
No end-of-life notification has been issued. It remains a standard catalog item from TI, so new designs can proceed without obsolescence risk. The 4000B series is mature but widely used for its wide voltage range and high noise immunity.
