3-to-5 series Li-ion protection in a 24-TSSOP
The BQ7791513PWR is a battery protection IC from Texas Instruments designed for 3-to-5 series Lithium Ion/Polymer battery stacks. It integrates overcurrent, overtemperature, overvoltage, undervoltage, and short-circuit fault protection into a single 24-TSSOP package.
Fault coverage and stackable architecture
The device monitors each cell for overvoltage and undervoltage conditions, and protects the pack against overcurrent and short-circuit events. Overtemperature protection shuts down the FETs when the die temperature exceeds the threshold, preventing thermal runaway in a faulted pack. The stackable architecture (noted in the description as 'stackable') allows multiple BQ7791513PWR devices to be cascaded for higher series-cell counts beyond 5, making the same BOM line usable across a family of battery packs with different voltages.
The 24-TSSOP (4.40 mm width) is a standard surface-mount package with a 0.65 mm pitch, compatible with conventional reflow profiles. The Tape & Reel option suits automated pick-and-place assembly.
