Product details

What this 1-cell monitor does on the board

The BQ298012RUGT is a single-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery monitor in an 8-X2QFN package, 1.5x1.5 mm. It watches for over-current, over-temperature, over/under-voltage, and short-circuit faults — the four things that kill a Li-Ion pack or send it into thermal runaway.

Surface-mount only — no through-hole option. The small footprint means it fits on a flex PCB inside a battery pack or on a tight handheld board, but the pad size and solder paste volume need to be dialed in for a consistent fillet.

Protection coverage and what it catches

Fault protection includes over-current, over-temperature, over/under-voltage, and short-circuit — that is the full set for a single-cell Li-Ion monitor. Over-voltage catches a charger that drifts above the cell's max voltage; under-voltage stops the load from dragging the cell below its safe discharge floor. Over-current and short-circuit are the hard-wired trip events that prevent the cell from dumping its full energy into a dead short.
