1-cell Li-Ion protection in a 6-WSON package
The BQ29707DSET is a single-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery protection IC from Texas Instruments, packaged in a 6-WSON (1.5x1.5 mm) — the same footprint as the 6-WFDFN. It monitors overcurrent, over/under voltage, and short-circuit faults, then disconnects the cell by driving an external N-channel MOSFET.
What the protection thresholds mean for the BOM
The IC handles one cell only — a 2-to-4-series pack needs a different part like the BQ296217DSGT, which monitors overvoltage only and runs to 110°C. The BQ29707DSET covers overcurrent, over/under voltage, and short circuit in a single monitor, so the BOM keeps the protection controller count to one per cell.
