What the protection thresholds mean for your BOM
The BQ29706DSER monitors cell voltage and pack current continuously. Over-voltage detection prevents charging beyond a safe cell voltage; under-voltage cuts off discharge before the cell is deeply depleted. Over-current and short-circuit protection trip on excessive load current, protecting the cell and the downstream circuitry. For a single-cell Li-Po or Li-Ion pack in a handheld device, this IC covers the standard protection requirements without needing external comparators or a separate supervisor.
