4A single-cell charger in a 2.8×2.5 mm DSBGA
The BQ25898YFFR is a Texas Instruments MaxCharge™ single-cell Li-Ion/Polymer charger delivering up to 4A charge current from a 14V max input rail — enough to charge a 3000 mAh cell in under an hour with the right thermal layout. It communicates over I²C and USB, so the host microcontroller can set charge current, termination voltage, and timer thresholds without external resistors. The 42-DSBGA (2.8×2.5 mm) footprint is the tightest constraint on this part — the 0.4 mm ball pitch means a 4-layer board with microvias is the practical minimum for fan-out.
Input range and protection limits
Built-in overcurrent and overtemperature fault protection means the charger will shut down before the inductor saturates or the die exceeds 150°C — a common failure signature on boards where the thermal pad isn't soldered down properly.
