The BQ25896RTWR is a Texas Instruments MaxCharge™ single-cell Li-ion/Li-polymer battery charger that delivers up to 3A charge current from a supply rail rated to 14V max. The I²C interface lets the system host set charge current, termination threshold, and safety timers without external resistor dividers — useful when the same PCB must support different cell capacities.
Charge current, input voltage, and thermal budget
The 3A max charge current is the thermal design target for the 24-WQFN (4x4 mm) package with exposed pad. Input voltage tolerance to 14V covers common USB-C PD profiles and legacy 12V wall adapters, but the actual charge voltage for a single Li-ion cell stays at the standard 4.2V or 4.35V termination programmed via I²C. Fault protection includes over-current and over-temperature shutdown, which prevents runaway if the cell or adapter is shorted.
