Product details

2-cell Li-ion balancer with I²C and integrated fault protection

The BQ25887RGET is a Texas Instruments 2-cell lithium-ion battery balancer in a 24-VQFN (4x4 mm) package. It uses an I²C interface to set balancing thresholds and report fault conditions — overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature are all handled on-chip.

The 2-cell limit is non-negotiable: this part balances exactly two series lithium-ion cells. For a single-cell pack you would need a different balancer or a monitor like the BQ79612PAPRQ1, which handles one cell but adds SPI/UART and AEC-Q100 qualification. For 3–4 cells the older BQ2084DBT-V143 uses SMBus and covers 2 to 4 cells, but its temperature range stops at 85°C and it comes in a tube package. The I²C interface lets a host microcontroller read fault status and adjust the balancing current or voltage thresholds on the fly — useful if the pack chemistry or aging profile changes over the product lifetime.

Active production — no lifecycle concern

For current BOMs, there is no pressure to last-time-buy or find a drop-in replacement. Confirm the 24-VQFN (4x4) footprint and the I²C bus voltage level before committing the layout.

Frequently asked questions

Does BQ25887RGET support overvoltage and overcurrent protection?

Yes. The device integrates fault protection for over current, over temperature, and over voltage. These are monitored continuously and reported via the I²C interface.
