2-cell Li-Ion charger with I2C control
The Texas Instruments BQ25883RGER is a 2-cell Li-Ion/Polymer battery charger controlled over an I2C interface, delivering constant charge current up to 2.2 A. It targets portable equipment, power tools, and industrial handhelds where a host microcontroller manages the charge profile and monitors fault conditions.
Supply rail and charge voltage limits
Maximum supply voltage is 6.2 V. The maximum battery pack voltage is 9.2 V. Charge current is programmable via the I2C bus; the maximum is 2.2 A. The constant-current charging method suits both Li-Ion and Li-Polymer chemistries.
Integrated fault protections
Over-current, over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit protection are all on-chip. This reduces the external protection component count — no separate current-sense resistor or thermal fuse is needed for basic fault coverage.
Package and thermal land pattern
The 0.5 mm pitch QFN demands careful solder-paste stencil design to avoid bridging.
