3A charge controller with I²C programmability
The BQ25601RTWR is a 1-cell Li-Ion/Polymer battery charge controller from Texas Instruments, rated for a maximum charge current of 3A. The I²C interface lets you set charge current, termination threshold, and other parameters in firmware rather than with fixed resistors — useful when the same PCB must support multiple battery capacities. Supply voltage tolerance goes up to 13.5V, so it can handle typical 5V USB input or a 9V wall adapter without an external pre-regulator. The constant-current charging mode is programmable, giving you control over the charge profile for the specific cell.
Industrial temperature range and fault protection
The integrated over-temperature and over-voltage fault protection shuts down the charger if the die gets too hot or the input spikes — one less discrete comparator to place on the board. Without it, the 3A charge current will push the junction temperature above the safe limit in a warm ambient.
