Single-cell charger with I²C programmability
The Texas Instruments BQ25120YFPT is a linear battery charger IC designed for single-cell Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer packs, with a maximum charge current of 300 mA. It communicates over an I²C interface, letting firmware set the charge current and monitor status without external resistors.
NRND — plan your BOM transition
That means TI is not actively promoting it for new projects, though existing production may continue for a time.
Package and mounting
The 300 mA ceiling suits wearable and IoT devices with small-capacity cells (100–500 mAh range). The I²C interface lets you adjust charge current on the fly, which is handy for thermal management in compact enclosures.
Fault protection and package reality
On-chip protection covers over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit conditions — no external supervisory IC needed. The 25-DSBGA package measures roughly 2.1 mm × 2.1 mm, which saves board area but demands a controlled solder profile and X-ray inspection post-reflow. Cut Tape or Tape & Reel options are available for prototyping or production.
