Single-cell Li-Ion linear charger in a 6-bump DSBGA
The BQ25101HYFPR is a linear charger IC for 1-cell Lithium-Ion or Lithium-Polymer battery packs. Charge current is constant and programmable up to 250 mA max, set by a single external resistor from the ISET pin to ground. The 6-DSBGA package measures roughly 0.9 mm x 1.4 mm — the smallest footprint in TI's BQ25101 family.
Fault protection and temperature range
On-chip fault protection covers over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit conditions. The over-temperature shutdown protects the die during high-ambient or high-charge-current operation — relevant because the 6-DSBGA package has limited thermal mass. The 0°C lower limit means the charger does not support charging below freezing without an external temperature-sense circuit — a common requirement for Li-ion cells. For designs that need cold-charging, a part with a wider temp range or external NTC input would be needed.
The base product number is BQ25101.
Sourcing and package availability
Surface-mount assembly on standard FR-4 with a 4-layer board recommended for thermal spreading under the DSBGA. Maximum supply voltage is 6.45 V. The charger regulates the battery voltage to 4.35 V — compatible with 4.35 V Li-ion cells, not the more common 4.2 V cells. If your BOM specifies a 4.2 V termination voltage, this part will overcharge the cell; verify the battery spec before committing.
