Single-cell linear charger in a 6-DSBGA package
The Texas Instruments BQ25100HYFPR is a single-cell linear battery charger for Li-Ion/Polymer cells, delivering a programmable constant charge current up to 250 mA. It integrates over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit fault protection, so the BOM does not need a separate supervisor IC. The 6-DSBGA package (1.2 mm × 0.8 mm typical) suits space-constrained portable designs — wearable earbuds, medical patches, or compact IoT nodes where every mm² counts.
Charge current and thermal budget
The 250 mA maximum charge current sets the charge-time floor for the cell. For a 100 mAh cell, a full charge at 250 mA takes roughly 30 minutes plus the constant-voltage taper; for a 500 mAh cell, expect about 2 hours. The junction temperature rating extends to 125°C, which means the part can sit near a warm battery or inside a sealed enclosure without derating the charge current — as long as the PCB copper area under the DSBGA package is adequate to pull heat away.
