The BQ24741RHDR is a Li-Ion/Polymer battery charger IC supporting 2 to 4 series cells. The maximum battery pack voltage is 18.048 V, which sets the ceiling for the cell stack — a 4S pack with 4.2 V/cell termination lands at 16.8 V, well within this limit. Charge current is constant and programmable up to 10 A. The 10 A ceiling means this IC can handle high-capacity packs (e.g., 5000 mAh cells at a 2C rate) without needing an external pass FET for current scaling. Fault protection covers overcurrent, overtemperature, overvoltage, and short circuit. The overvoltage threshold is tied to the battery pack voltage limit — if a cell fails open, the charger shuts down before the remaining cells exceed their absolute max. Supply voltage max is 24 V. A 3S or 4S pack charged from a 19 V laptop adapter or a 24 V industrial rail is within the input range — no external pre-regulator needed.
