Charger IC for 2-4 cell packs — 8 A ceiling
The Texas Instruments BQ24705RGET is a multi-chemistry battery charger IC designed for 2 to 4 series-cell packs, with a programmable constant-current charge up to 8 A max. It accepts a supply voltage up to 24 V and includes over-voltage fault protection on the output.
Charge current and thermal budget
The constant-current programming is set with an external resistor; the datasheet gives the formula for the desired current.
Temperature grade and environment
The multi-chemistry support covers Li-ion, Li-Po, and LiFePO4 cells, so the same BOM can serve different pack chemistries by adjusting the charge voltage threshold.
Package and footprint
Housed in a 24-VFQFN with exposed pad (4x4 mm body), the part is surface-mount only. The small footprint saves board area but the thermal pad requires a via-in-pad or a large copper pour on the inner layer to conduct heat away.
