Multi-chemistry charger with a 28 V ceiling
The Texas Instruments BQ24703PWR is a multi-chemistry battery charger controller that handles Li-Ion, Li-Poly, NiMH, and NiCd packs from a single input rail rated up to 28 V. That 28 V max supply is the headline number — it tells you the part can accept a wide-range adapter, say a 19 V laptop brick or a 24 V industrial supply, without an external pre-regulator.
Package and mounting — 24-TSSOP, surface mount
The BQ24703PWR comes in a 24-TSSOP package with a 4.40 mm body width and 0.65 mm pin pitch. It is a surface-mount part, so it goes through a reflow oven — no hand-soldering unless you have a fine tip and steady hands. The 24-TSSOP is a common enough footprint that it is in most rework kits, but the 0.65 mm pitch means you want a decent microscope to inspect the joints after a hand-swap.
Lifecycle — still in active production
For a BOM line, this is the green light — you can design it into a new product without worrying about an EOL notice next quarter.
