Multi-chemistry charger for solar and adapter-fed designs
The Texas Instruments BQ24650RVAR is a multi-chemistry battery charger IC in a 16-VQFN (3.5x3.5) package. The device supports programmable charge current and includes integrated over-temperature and over-voltage fault protection. Typical applications include solar-powered chargers, portable equipment, and industrial battery backup systems where the input source may vary widely.
The 28V maximum supply voltage sets the upper limit for the input rail. For a solar panel or unregulated adapter, the designer must ensure the open-circuit voltage never exceeds this rating, including cold-temperature transients.
Industrial temperature grade and field deployment
The multi-chemistry support (Li-ion, LiFePO4, lead-acid) means a single BOM line can cover different battery types by adjusting the charge algorithm in the host controller.
Active lifecycle — no LTB concern for new designs
For new designs, this part can be specified without a near-term end-of-life contingency.
