Multi-chemistry charger controller in 8-TSSOP
The Texas Instruments BQ24401PWG4 is a multi-chemistry battery charger controller designed for charging a range of battery types — NiCd, NiMH, Li-Ion, and lead-acid — without requiring a separate chemistry-specific IC. It integrates a programmable timer for charge termination, making it suitable for standalone charger designs in consumer and industrial equipment where the battery chemistry may vary across product variants.
Supply rail and temperature envelope
The device operates from a maximum supply voltage of 6V, which sets the input rail requirement for the charger circuit — a regulated 5V rail or a 6V wall adapter is typical. The operating temperature range of -20°C to 70°C covers most indoor and sheltered outdoor applications, including portable instruments, backup power systems, and battery-powered tools that are not exposed to extreme cold or engine-bay heat.
Package and mounting
The 8-TSSOP footprint is shared across the BQ24401 family, so a board layout for one member accepts the others.
