Li-ion protection in a 2x2 mm WSON
The Texas Instruments BQ24316DSGR is a single-chip Li-ion battery protection IC that monitors overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature conditions. It integrates the protection FET and sense resistor, so the external BOM stays small — useful for compact portable packs where board area is tight.
Fault coverage and temperature range
The protection set covers the four failure modes that matter for a Li-ion cell: overcurrent (charge and discharge), overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature.
Housed in an 8-WSON (2x2 mm) with an exposed thermal pad (supplier device package 8-WSON 2x2). The 0.50 mm pitch is manageable on a two-layer board if the pad is stitched to a ground plane with enough vias.
