Device function and protection envelope
The Texas Instruments BQ24314DSJR is a battery protection IC designed for single-cell lithium-ion packs. Its fault-protection set covers over-current, over-temperature, and over/under-voltage conditions — the three failure modes that dominate Li-ion safety incidents. Operating temperature spans 0°C to 125°C (junction), which covers the industrial ambient range inside a portable device enclosure but does not extend to the -40°C cold-crank floor of automotive-grade parts.
Housed in a 12-VFDFN exposed-pad package (supplier device package 12-VSON, 4×3 mm), the IC requires a thermal-land pattern on the PCB to sink heat from the protection FETs during sustained over-current events. Cut Tape works for prototype or low-volume builds.
Texas Instruments has marked the BQ24314DSJR as Obsolete. Available through independent distribution — quantities are lot-specific, and pricing is confirmed at RFQ. The base product number BQ24314 identifies the family; a pin-compatible alternative in the same family may exist, but no cross-reference is documented here.
