Li-ion protection with a full fault set
The Texas Instruments BQ24313DSGR is a battery protection IC designed for single-cell Li-ion packs. It integrates overcurrent, overtemperature, and over/under voltage detection — a single-chip safeguard that replaces discrete comparator-and-fuse circuits.
What the fault protection covers
Three fault domains are monitored: overcurrent (charge/discharge), overtemperature, and over/under voltage. The IC latches off the output when any threshold is exceeded, preventing cell damage and thermal runaway — no external sense resistor needed for the overcurrent function. Because the protection is self-contained, the BOM count stays low: the IC plus a few passives and the Li-ion cell itself. The 8-WSON (2x2 mm) package with exposed pad keeps the board footprint under 4 mm², which matters when the protection circuit shares space with the cell connector and fuel gauge.
Sourced through independent distribution against an RFQ.
