At 3A max charge current, this IC can fill a typical 18650 cell (3000–3500 mAh) in about an hour — limited by the cell's own C-rate. The constant-current phase is programmable via I²C, so the same BOM can charge a 500 mAh coin cell at a lower current without hardware change. Supply voltage max is 6.2V, which means the part works from a 5V USB rail or a standard 5V wall adapter without a pre-regulator. The battery pack voltage is fixed at 4.2V, matching the termination voltage for standard Li-Ion and Li-Polymer cells.
Package and thermal considerations for layout
The fault protection block includes over-current, over-temperature, and over-voltage — these are hardwired, not reliant on the I²C controller being active.
