Single-cell Li-Ion charger with I²C current programmability
The Texas Instruments BQ24262YFFR is a single-cell lithium-ion battery charger with an I²C interface for programmable charge current, targeting space-constrained portable designs. It delivers up to 3A charge current to a 4.2V battery pack, with built-in over-temperature and over-voltage fault protection. The device is housed in a 36-DSBGA package measuring 2.63x2.46 mm, suited for compact PCBs where board area is at a premium.
3A charge current and I²C control — what drives the BOM fit
The I²C interface allows the host microcontroller to program the charge current in real time, enabling adaptive charging profiles based on battery temperature or input power budget. Supply voltage maximum is 6V, so the input rail must be regulated — a 5V USB bus is fine, but a raw 12V adapter would need a front-end buck converter.
Obsolete — sourcing through independent distribution
Engineers designing new products should evaluate a current-production single-cell Li-Ion charger from TI's portfolio, such as a BQ256xx or BQ258xx series device, which offer similar I²C programmability and higher integration.
