Single-cell Li-Ion charger with USB input and integrated protection
The BQ24232HARGTT is a single-cell Li-Ion battery charger IC from Texas Instruments designed for USB-powered portable devices. On-chip fault protection covers over-temperature, over-voltage, reverse current, and short-circuit conditions, reducing the need for external supervisory components and simplifying the safety certification of the end product.
Charge current and timer programmability
The charge current is constant and programmable via an external resistor. The 500 mA maximum sets the charge time floor for a typical 1000 mAh cell at roughly two hours, assuming the input supply can sustain that current. The programmable timer provides a safety timeout to terminate charging if the battery does not reach the 4.31 V full-charge voltage within the set window.
Junction temperature range and package thermal design
The operating junction temperature range spans -5°C to 125°C, covering most industrial and automotive cabin environments but not full military cold soak.
