It uses an I²C interface for programming charge current, termination voltage, and status monitoring, making it suitable for portable devices where the host processor manages the charging profile. The charger supports a constant-current / constant-voltage (CC/CV) algorithm with a programmable charge current up to 2.5A and a fixed battery regulation voltage of 4.2V.
Input voltage and fault protection
The device accepts a maximum supply voltage of 17V, which covers standard USB inputs (5V) and common wall adapters up to 12V with margin. Integrated fault protection includes over-current, over-temperature, and over-voltage detection, reducing external component count and simplifying the safety compliance path.
Housed in a 24-VFQFN Exposed Pad package (4x4 mm body, supplier device package 24-VQFN), the BQ24196RGET requires a surface-mount reflow process.
