The BQ24193RGET is a Texas Instruments single-cell Lithium Ion/Polymer battery charger IC that delivers up to 4.5 A of programmable charge current via an I²C interface. The 17 V maximum supply voltage accommodates common USB-C PD adapters and 5 V/9 V/12 V wall warts, but the input over-voltage protection threshold must be set via I²C to clamp before the internal FET sees the full 17 V. Over-current, over-temperature, and over-voltage fault protection are integrated, reducing external component count for the protection network.
Charge current and input voltage limits
The 4.5 A maximum charge current is a continuous rating for a single cell with a 4.2 V battery pack voltage. The current is programmed via I²C, not a resistor — the firmware must set the charge current register before enabling charging. This is a single-cell charger only — the Number of Cells field is 1. It cannot be used for a 2-cell battery pack without external balancing circuitry, and the 4.2 V battery pack voltage confirms the chemistry target.
For new designs, this is a safe selection — no imminent obsolescence risk. Cut tape (CT) is also listed for prototype quantities.
The datasheet layout recommendation calls for multiple vias under the pad to a ground plane. Surface-mount assembly is standard; the MSL rating (not in evidence) should be verified for reflow profile. The I²C interface uses standard 100 kHz or 400 kHz bus speeds.
