The I²C interface lets firmware set the charge current, termination threshold, and timer limits — a step up from fixed-function chargers that require resistor dividers for each parameter. It integrates over-current, over-temperature, and over-voltage protection on-die, so the external BOM stays lean: no separate protection supervisor needed for most designs.

17V input — USB PD and adapter tolerant

The 17V maximum supply voltage covers USB-C Power Delivery profiles up to 15V, plus common wall adapters. The input OVP threshold is set internally, so a 15V adapter or a hot-plug transient won't blow the charger.

I²C-controlled charge profile

Charge current is constant-current programmable via I²C, not a fixed resistor. That means the same PCB can support different cell capacities by changing a firmware register.

24-VQFN (4x4) with exposed pad — thermal management

The 24-VQFN package measures 4x4 mm with an exposed thermal pad. The datasheet's recommended layout uses a 2x2 via array under the pad — skip that and the charger will current-fold long before hitting 4.5A in a warm enclosure.

Both share the same 24-VQFN footprint and I²C register map, so a swap requires only a firmware check on the OTG enable bit.
