Single-cell Li-Ion charger with 2.5 A ceiling
The Texas Instruments BQ24167RGER is a single-cell Lithium Ion battery charger IC designed for portable devices that charge from a USB source. It delivers a programmable constant charge current up to 2.5 A max, sized for single-cell 3.7 V battery packs in power banks, handheld instruments, and IoT edge nodes.
Charge current programming and protection
Charge current is constant and programmable, so the BOM resistor or firmware sets the rate per the battery capacity. The 2.5 A ceiling supports fast charging for cells rated at 2500 mAh or higher, but the thermal budget in the 24-VFQFN package with exposed pad must be checked against the PCB copper area. On-chip fault protection covers over-temperature and short-circuit conditions, which is the safety layer that prevents thermal runaway during a fault event.
USB input and temperature range
The USB interface means the charger accepts 5 V from a standard USB port or adapter, with a maximum supply voltage of 10 V.
