The charger integrates over-temperature and short-circuit fault protection, reducing the need for external supervisory components on the power path. The 10 V maximum supply voltage gives enough headroom for a 5 V USB bus or a 9 V wall adapter without an external pre-regulator.
The USB interface is the control bus. Single-cell operation means the battery pack voltage is 3.7 V nominal.
