Active single-cell Li-Ion charger in a 2.8 mm² footprint
The BQ24165YFFR is a Texas Instruments single-cell Lithium-Ion battery charger IC with a USB interface, delivering up to 2.5 A of programmable charge current. That current density in a 49-DSBGA package measuring 2.8x2.8 mm means the thermal path is through the board — the pad layout and copper pour directly set the junction temperature during a full-current charge cycle. Fault protection covers over-temperature and short-circuit events, so the charger can sit on the battery rail without a separate supervisor in many designs.
Charge current and thermal budget in a DSBGA
The 2.5 A ceiling is a constant-current programmable limit, which means the actual charge rate is set by a resistor or I²C — not fixed at 2.5 A. The battery pack voltage is 3.7 V nominal, so the charger regulates the float voltage for a single-cell Li-Ion stack. Package is 49-UFBGA, DSBGA with the supplier device package 49-DSBGA (2.8x2.8 mm). Surface-mount only. The 0.5 mm ball pitch demands a controlled solder-paste stencil and a 4-layer board if you need to route signals under the BGA — the inner layers carry the high-current charge path to keep the top-layer copper pour clean.
Active production — no obsolescence watch needed
The part is available in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT), which covers both prototype and production reel quantities.
