Single-cell Li-ion charger with USB detection
The BQ24165RGET is a single-cell Li-ion battery charger from Texas Instruments, designed to pull power from a USB port or a DC adapter. It delivers a programmable constant charge current up to 2.5 A and accepts a supply voltage up to 10 V. The USB interface means it can handle BC1.2 detection or dedicated charging port handshaking, which is useful for devices that need to negotiate current from a host port.
Charge current and thermal budget
At 2.5 A charge current, the power dissipation in the 24-VQFN package with exposed pad becomes the limiting factor for board layout. For a 3.7 V battery pack, the input-to-battery voltage drop at 2.5 A can push several watts of heat into the package, so a 4-layer board with thermal vias under the pad is recommended.
Protection and fault handling
Built-in over-temperature and short-circuit protection reduce the need for external supervisory circuits. The charger enters a fault state if the die temperature exceeds the threshold or if the output is shorted, then recovers automatically when the fault clears. This simplifies the BOM for portable devices where board space is tight.
Active production and package options
It is offered in Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) packaging, both surface-mount in the 24-VFQFN exposed-pad case. The supplier device package is 24-VQFN (4x4 mm). For current pricing and lead time, submit an RFQ against your BOM quantity.
