2.5A single-cell Li-Ion charger with USB input
The BQ24165RGER is a single-cell Li-Ion battery charger IC from Texas Instruments, designed for USB-powered portable devices. Its maximum charge current of 2.5 A suits fast charging of 3.7 V battery packs in smartphones, tablets, and handheld instruments. The USB interface lets the IC negotiate input power from a standard USB port or dedicated charger adapter, simplifying the power path in space-constrained designs. Built-in fault protection against over-temperature and short-circuit means the IC can handle fault conditions without external supervisory components — a practical advantage when the charger sits on a flex cable near the battery connector.
Thermal and package reality for the layout
The 24-VFQFN exposed pad package — 4 mm × 4 mm — demands a thermal via array under the pad to pull heat into the ground plane. At 2.5 A charge current, the power dissipation in the internal FET can push junction temperature above 85 °C if the PCB copper area is skimped. Surface-mount assembly is standard; the 24-VQFN footprint is common and reworkable with a hot-air station.
Active production — sourcing posture
We source this device per RFQ — confirm your target quantity and we will provide a current price and lead-time quote. The active lifecycle removes the urgency of a last-time buy, but single-source risk remains; keep an eye on TI's PCN notifications if your production run extends beyond 18 months.
