Single-cell Li-ion charger with I²C programmability
The Texas Instruments BQ24163RGER is a single-cell Lithium Ion/Polymer battery charger that uses an I²C interface for programmable charge parameters, including a constant-current charge up to 2.5 A maximum. It accepts a supply voltage up to 10 V, making it suitable for USB or 5 V adapter inputs, and integrates over-voltage and over-temperature fault protection to simplify the external protection circuitry.
2.5 A charge current and 3.4 V battery pack voltage
The maximum charge current of 2.5 A sets the charge-time floor for a single-cell Li-ion pack; the battery pack voltage is 3.4 V, typical for a single-cell Li-ion termination voltage. The I²C interface allows the host controller to adjust the charge current, termination threshold, and other parameters dynamically during charging, which is useful for thermal management or fast-charge profiles.
