2.5 A programmable charge current, I²C control
The BQ24161BYFFR from Texas Instruments is a single-cell Li-Ion/Polymer switching charger with a programmable constant-current charge up to 2.5 A max. The I²C interface lets the host set the charge current and monitor status without extra GPIOs. Over-temperature and over-voltage fault protection are built in, so the charger handles adapter glitches without the MCU having to intervene.
Input voltage and thermal limits for field fit
Supply max is 10 V, which covers standard 5 V USB and 9 V wall adapters. The 49-DSBGA package (2.8 x 2.8 mm) is tiny, but that BGA footprint means the board needs a stencil and a reflow profile; this is not a hand-solder part for a field swap.
