2A charge current in a 3.5x4.5 mm QFN
The Texas Instruments BQ24123RHLRG4 is a bqSWITCHER synchronous-switch-mode Li-Ion/Li-Polymer charge controller. It delivers a programmable constant charge current up to 2A to a battery pack of 1 to 3 series cells, with a target pack voltage of 8.4V for a 2-cell configuration. The input supply ceiling is 16V, so it can run from a 12V rail or a 5V USB adapter without an external pre-regulator.
Programmable current and timer, over-temperature protection
Charge current is set with an external resistor — constant-current programmable — and the IC also includes a programmable safety timer to terminate charging if the battery does not reach full voltage within the window. Over-temperature fault protection shuts down the converter if the die exceeds the thermal threshold, a safeguard for tight enclosures.
