2 A charge ceiling and the thermal budget
The BQ24115RHLR is a bqSWITCHER™-series multi-chemistry battery charger from Texas Instruments. It handles 1 to 3 series cells with a programmable constant-current charge up to 2 A max and a battery pack voltage ceiling of 15.5 V. The 16 V maximum supply input means it runs cleanly off a 12 V or 15 V wall adapter, but a 24 V industrial rail requires a pre-regulator step. The 2 A charge current is the headline number, but the thermal reality of the 20-VQFN (3.5x4.5) exposed-pad package sets the practical limit.
Programmable features and fault protection
Charge current and charge timer are programmable via external resistors, giving the designer control over the charge profile without I²C or SMBus overhead. The on-chip fault protection covers over-temperature and over-voltage conditions — the part shuts down before the battery or the charger FET sees stress.
Industrial temperature grade and application fit
The multi-chemistry support means it can also handle NiMH or LiFePO4 chemistries with the right termination voltage programming.
