2A charge current, 16V input, 1-2 cells — Li-Ion/Polymer charger for portable gear
The BQ24113ARHLRG4 is a Li-Ion/Polymer battery charger IC from TI's bqSWITCHER series, delivering a programmable constant charge current up to 2A. It handles 1 or 2 series cells with a battery pack voltage of 8.4V for the 2-cell configuration. Input supply can go up to 16V, which covers standard 5V USB, 9V/12V adapters, and even 15V laptop bricks without an external buck pre-regulator. The 2A current ceiling means a 2000 mAh single cell charges in roughly one hour — fine for handheld medical, portable instruments, and battery-backup systems. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 85°C, so this part fits outdoor telecom, automotive cabin, and industrial portable equipment without needing a mil-spec upscreen.
Programmable current and timer, fault protection on-chip
Charging current is constant and programmable via an external resistor — no I2C bus required, which simplifies the BOM for a standalone charger. The timer is also programmable, giving the designer control over the safety timeout window. Built-in fault protection covers over-temperature and over-voltage conditions. That means the IC can survive a hot bench or a floating battery disconnect without latching off or blowing. A 2-layer board with a via array under the pad is adequate for 2A continuous charge current.
Active production — sourcing and lifecycle posture
Supplied in Tape & Reel (TR) for automated pick-and-place assembly. The base product number is BQ24113, so any PCN or EOL notification would be issued under that root number.
