Automotive AEC-Q100 Li-Ion charger — 2 A, 12.6 V pack ceiling
The Texas Instruments BQ24105IRHLRQ1 is an automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) synchronous buck Li-Ion/Li-Polymer charger from the bqSWITCHER™ family. It handles 1 to 3 series cells, with a programmable charge current up to 2 A and a battery regulation voltage of 12.6 V — that's the 3-cell ceiling. The 16 V maximum supply input gives headroom for 12 V rails in automotive or industrial systems without an external pre-regulator. Protection is built in: over-temperature and over-voltage fault shutdown. The programmable features — charge current and safety timer — let you tune the charging profile without changing the bill of materials.
2 A charge current — thermal and layout reality
The 2 A max charge current is a constant-current programmable limit, not a peak transient. The datasheet's recommended copper area on the top layer is the starting point — skimping on thermal vias pushes the die above 85°C and the charger throttles back via its internal thermal regulation loop.
