Charge current ceiling and battery chemistry fit
The BQ24095DGQR is a linear charger for single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer packs, with a programmable charge current up to 1A. That 1A ceiling means a 1000 mAh cell charges at roughly 1C rate — expect about an hour to full charge from a deeply depleted state, less if the pack is smaller. The battery chemistry is Lithium Ion/Polymer, and the termination voltage is 4.35V, which matches the newer high-energy-density cells. If your BOM calls for a 4.2V cell, the charger must be programmed to a lower termination voltage — confirm the cell's spec before committing.
Supply voltage margin and USB compatibility
The maximum supply voltage is 6.45V, and the interface is USB. A standard 5V USB bus sits well below that ceiling, but a 5V rail with 5% tolerance hits 5.25V — leaving only 1.2V of headroom to the abs max. If the wall wart has poor regulation or ripple, the peak voltage could push past the limit. The charger also includes fault protection against over-temperature, over-voltage, and short circuit, which covers the common failure modes in portable designs.
Package thermal consideration for the 10-HVSSOP
The BQ24095DGQR comes in a 10-HVSSOP package, which is the same footprint as the 10-PowerTFSOP. Without that thermal via array, the linear regulator's power dissipation — up to about 0.5W at 1A charge current with a 5V input and 3.7V battery — will push the junction temperature above 125°C in still air.
