The BQ24090DGQR is a Texas Instruments single-cell linear charger IC for Li-Ion and Li-Polymer battery packs. Its headline rating is the 1A maximum charge current, which sets the fastest charge time for a given battery capacity — a 1000 mAh cell charges in roughly one hour at the 1A ceiling, assuming the input supply can deliver that current. The charger terminates at a fixed 4.2V battery voltage, the standard full-charge voltage for most Li-Ion/polymer cells. No adjustable voltage option means the BOM must match cells with a 4.2V termination spec.
Protection and programmability
Built-in fault protection covers over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit conditions — no external supervisor IC needed for these fault events. The charge current is programmable via an external resistor (constant-current mode), giving the designer control over the charge rate for different cell capacities. Maximum supply voltage is 6.45V, so the part is designed for 5V USB or regulated 5V rails. Do not feed it from an unregulated 12V bus without a pre-regulator.
Package and footprint
The BQ24090DGQR is offered in a 10-PowerTFSOP / 10-MSOP package (3.00 mm width) with a supplier device package of 10-HVSSOP. Surface-mount only. The 10-HVSSOP footprint is shared with other BQ24090 family variants, so a single PCB layout can accommodate multiple charge-current options.
