Single-cell linear charger, 750 mA ceiling
The BQ24086DRCT is a single-cell linear battery charger from Texas Instruments, designed for Li-Ion and Li-Polymer packs with a 4.2 V termination voltage. The charge current is constant and programmable up to a maximum of 750 mA, set by an external resistor. The input supply can go as high as 6.5 V, giving headroom above the battery target for USB or wall-adapter sources. Fault protection includes over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit detection — the charger shuts down before the junction exceeds 125°C or the input rail drifts out of safe range.
10-VSON package and thermal pad
The 10-VFDFN Exposed Pad (10-VSON 3x3 mm) package relies on the centre thermal pad for heat sinking. Without adequate thermal management, the 750 mA charge current will trigger the over-temperature protection in a warm enclosure.
