Single-cell Li-ion linear charger with 1 A ceiling
The BQ24083DRCTG4 is a linear charger for single-cell Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer packs, delivering up to 1 A charge current with a fixed 4.2 V regulation voltage. The 6.5 V maximum input supply comfortably accommodates a 5 V USB bus or wall adapter, even with 10 % tolerance and a Schottky diode drop upstream. Charge current and safety timer are set by external passive components — a resistor on ISET programs the current, a capacitor on TMR sets the timeout. No digital interface is required, which simplifies the BOM for cost-sensitive portable designs.
Thermal and package considerations
The 10-VSON (3x3) package with exposed pad demands a solid thermal connection to the PCB ground plane. The junction temperature range spans 0 °C to 125 °C. The datasheet layout recommendation should be followed to keep the junction temperature below the 125 °C ceiling during continuous charging.
