The Texas Instruments BQ24070RHLTG4 is a linear charger IC designed for single-cell Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Polymer battery packs, delivering a programmable charge current up to 1.5 A with a fixed 4.2 V termination voltage.
16 V input, industrial temp, and built-in fault protection
The supply input is rated up to 16 V, which covers USB bus voltage (5 V nominal) and unregulated wall-wart outputs up to 12 V with margin for transients. On-chip fault protection includes over-temperature, reverse-current blocking, and short-circuit detection — these reduce the external protection component count and improve system reliability during charge faults or battery disconnect events.
Programmable charge current and safety timer
The charge current and the safety timer are both set with external resistors, giving the designer control over the charge profile without changing the IC. The timer provides a backup termination if the battery never reaches the 4.2 V regulation voltage within the programmed window.
