Single-cell Li-ion linear charger with 1A ceiling
The Texas Instruments BQ24060DRCR is a linear battery charger IC designed for single-cell Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer packs. It delivers a programmable constant-current charge up to 1A and terminates at 4.2V battery voltage, matching the standard full-charge threshold for most portable and handheld Li-ion designs. Input supply tolerance goes to 16.5V maximum, so the part can run from a 5V USB port or a 12V wall adapter without an external pre-regulator, though the linear topology means the pass element dissipates the voltage drop as heat.
Protection set and programmable timer
On-chip fault protection covers over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit conditions — three safeguards that reduce the external supervisory circuitry otherwise needed around a charger front-end. The only programmable feature is a timer, a safety timer to terminate charge if the battery does not reach the regulation voltage within a set window. No I2C or digital interface; the charge current is set with an external resistor.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a 10-VFDFN Exposed Pad package (3x3 mm), the part dissipates heat through the pad to the PCB copper plane.
