Single-cell Li-Ion linear charger with USB interface
The Texas Instruments BQ24052DSQR is a single-cell linear charger IC for Lithium Ion/Polymer batteries, designed for space-constrained portable gear. It accepts a USB or unregulated DC input up to 28 V and delivers a programmable constant charge current up to 800 mA. The device integrates over-temperature, over-voltage, and short-circuit fault protection, reducing external component count. The charge current is set via an external resistor — no I2C or GPIO needed.
Charge current and input voltage headroom
Maximum charge current of 800 mA suits single-cell packs up to 4.2 V termination. The 28 V input ceiling covers unregulated wall adapters and USB-C PD sources; a 6.5 V input clamp protects the IC during hot-plug transients. The 10-WSON (2x2) package with exposed pad keeps thermal resistance low — important for linear charging at 800 mA when input-to-battery differential exceeds 1 V.
This part is suitable for both prototyping and volume production without supply-chain disruption.
