1S Li-Ion/Polymer charger with USB input
The Texas Instruments BQ24030RHLR is a linear battery charger from the bqTINY™ III series, designed for single-cell (1S) Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer packs. It accepts power through a USB interface and delivers a programmable constant charge current up to 1.5 A maximum.
Charge current and programmable features
The charge current is constant and programmable via an external resistor, with a ceiling of 1.5 A. Additional programmable features include a charge timer, which allows the designer to set a safety timeout for the charge cycle. Fault protection covers over-temperature, reverse current, and short-circuit conditions, providing a robust charging solution for portable devices without requiring external monitoring circuitry.
Package and thermal pad rework
Housed in a 20-VFQFN Exposed Pad package (Supplier Device Package 20-VQFN 3.5x4.5 mm), the part is surface-mount and requires a thermal pad on the PCB for heat sinking. Under a hot-air station, the small 3.5x4.5 mm body reflows cleanly if the pad is properly tinned and the profile stays within the datasheet's recommended reflow curve.
Temperature range and operating environment
The 16 V maximum supply voltage gives headroom for unregulated USB or 12 V rail inputs.
