500 mA linear charger for single-cell Li-Ion packs
The BQ24027DRCR is a linear charger IC from the bqTINY™-II family, designed for single-cell Lithium Ion/Polymer battery packs. It delivers a programmable charge current up to 500 mA, set by an external resistor — the actual charge rate is a function of the resistor value and the thermal budget of the 10-VSON package. Input supply is rated to 6.5 V max, making it suitable for USB ports or regulated wall adapters. The IC integrates over-temperature fault protection, so a thermal event shuts down the charger without external sensing components.
Programmable current and timer with USB interface
Charge current and a safety timer are programmable via external components — the current set resistor and a timing capacitor define the fast-charge rate and the total charge duration. The USB interface is the primary power input, but any 4.5 V to 6.5 V supply works. The battery regulation voltage is fixed at 4.2 V, matching standard single-cell Li-Ion and Li-Polymer termination voltage. For a 3.7 V nominal cell, the charger terminates at 4.2 V — that is the correct full-charge voltage for that chemistry.
