Charge current and battery regulation
For a typical 1000 mAh single-cell Li-Ion pack, that sets a minimum charge time of roughly two hours — the current ceiling is the limiter, not the thermal pad. The charge current is set with a single external resistor; the timer and current are the two programmable features.
The 10-VSON (3x3 mm) package with exposed pad pulls heat into the PCB copper — the thermal resistance depends on the pad's solder coverage and the number of vias under the die.
