Single-cell Li-ion linear charger, 1.2 A ceiling
The Texas Instruments BQ24008PWPR is a linear charger IC for single-cell Lithium-Ion battery packs, delivering a constant charge current up to 1.2 A. It operates from a supply rail up to 10 V and integrates over-temperature fault protection — a common failure signature on boards where the thermal pad wasn't properly soldered to the ground plane.
Programmable current and timer — no I²C needed
Charge current and safety timer are set by external resistors — no digital interface required. This simplifies the BOM for cost-sensitive designs where a microcontroller isn't already on the board. The constant-current charging profile is the standard CC/CV algorithm for Li-ion cells; the 4.2 V battery pack voltage is the termination threshold.
